Dear Summit Band Fan,
  
Congratulations to the Winter Guard on their performances in January and February!  Your hard work is really showing!!  See all the details below in the Winterguard Info section.
 
Please check below for more opportunities to support your band student.  We especially need your help with the Jazz Dinner Dance!
         
The next booster meeting will be on Monday, Mar. 10th at 7:00pm.

Below is information you will need for your band student:
1.  Wind Symphony Sectional schedule for after school rehearsal is 
    posted on the band website.
    Mar. 1 - UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Martin HS, (specific 
                    performance times will be available a few days prior to
                    March 1st)
      Mar. 1 - Summit Varsity Winterguard performance, Aledo HS
                       PerformanceTime 6:08pm
                       T.A. Howard Middle School will perform in exhibition at 11:54 am
(Ms. Neugent and the Summit Winter Guard members started a
program this year to work with T.A. Howard as these girls are future
Summit Guard members)
                      
      Mar. 8 - 6:00pm - Big Band Jazz Dinner Dance featuring the
                    Summit HS Jazz Ensemble, Wester MS Jazz Ensemble, and
                    the UTA Jazz Orchestra, SHS Commons Area
 
     May 5-8:  Color Guard training/ auditions, SHS Band Hall
                         4:30-6:00pm
 
2.  Winter Guard info
    A very special thank you to all of the members of the band who have
    graciously volunteered their time to act as floor crew for the Winter
    Guard during the last two competitions. Your assistance is greatly
    appreciated!
 
   The Winter Guard will perform at Aledo High School at 6:08pm on
   Saturday, March 1st.  Contact Ms. Neugent (neugentn@charter.net
   if you would like to volunteer to help on the floor crew.  Or, just come
   out and support the Winter Guard.  Cheering fans would be
   wonderful!! 
   The Summit Varsity Winterguard competed January 19th at Keller
   High School and placed first in their classification. The score earned
   by the group was so high that the judges further awarded them with 
   a promotion to the next classification. Two students also competed
   in the solo competition at Keller High School.  Anna Bryan finished
   in 3rd place and Kara Mangum finished in 1st place. Congratulations
   to all of the members of the 3 time state champion Summit Varsity 
   Winterguard for their accomplishments at their first competition of
   the season.
  The Summit Winter Guard competed Friday, Feb 22 at Lamar High 
  School in Arlington , Texas . The Guard finished in 3rd place (just 2.7
  points below the first place winner) in their classification “SAAA”, but
  scored high enough to again be promoted by the judges to the next
  classification “SAA”.
 
3.   $Senior Scholarships$
      Mr. Bonebrake has given the scholarship applications to all senior
      band students.  The deadline to return the applications is April
     15th.  
                      
4.  Dinners to Go
    Just a reminder to pick up your Dinners To Go order
    at Nelda's on Wed. Feb. 27.
 
5.  The Jazz Dinner Dance and Silent Auction      
     A Night of Big Band Music and Dancing
     Saturday, March 8, 2008 beginning at 6 pm
 
Plans are underway for our 7th Annual Jazz Dinner Dance and Silent Auction in the Summit Commons.  This year will feature music from the Wester MS Jazz Band, the Summit HS Jazz Ensemble and a special guest performance by the University of Texas at Arlington Jazz Orchestra! 
 
Here is the tentative schedule of events for the evening:
 
6:00pm          Doors open and Silent Auction viewing begins
                        Serving lines open
 
                        Dinner donated by Spring Creek Barbeque
 
6:30                Wester Jazz Band performs—Nathan Wood, director
 
7:00                Summit Jazz Ensemble performs—Brad Bonebrake, director
 
8:30 to 9:30     UTA Jazz Orchestra performs
 
Dinner tickets are $12.00 for Adults (13 & over) - $7.00 for Children (under 12)
(Tables are $120.00, which seat 10 at a reserved prime seating table)
Dance only tickets are $5.00
 
Tickets and/or money needs to turned in this Friday, Feb. 29!!
Please remember to drop off items for the silent auction including: section basket items, senior basket items, family basket items, or other individual items.  The success of this event determines the cost to our students for the Band Banquet.
Several committees are currently working on this event, but there is still plenty you can do!! 
Dessert Committee:  We are currently in need of volunteers to donate desserts (either homemade or store bought).  The desserts can be pies, cakes, plain cheesecakes, or cheesecake toppings (strawberries, cherry, etc).  Please label the dessert with the name of the dessert.  You can drop it off at the Summit Commons Area on March 8 from 2:00pm to 5:30pm.  We also need donations of bottled water and canned soft drinks to sell at the dessert table.  Please contact Mardelle Riley with donations of desserts or drinks at mardelle.riley@sbcglobal.net

6.  Band Banquet
    The next committee meeting will be March 3 at 7:00pm in the
    Band Hall.  Everyone interested in invited.
 
7.  If you volunteered to take some of the hydration packs home for
     cleaning, please return them to the band hall.
